The Oxon & Berks Branch currently boasts a healthy membership with a good variety of cars ranging from the 1948 Series MM to the 1969 saloons. Between us we show a good representation of the Morris Minor cars including Series MM, Minor 1000 Saloons, Convertibles and Travellers. Several of the cars are in everyday use and enjoy pootling around the county in which the cars were first manufactured.
If you would like further information on any of the cars listed below, please do not hesitate to contact us.

1948 Morris Minor Series MM 2 Door Saloon. MPJ 584.
Oxfordshire
Modestly and sensitively restored by its current owner, this Morris Minor Low Light is one of only about ten Morris Minors still in existence that were built in the original year of manufacture.
The car was acquired in 2005 from the widow of the previous owner. Her husband had taken it in exchange for a £30 debt in 1972 and used it for a short while until he parked it up because it was too old.
Restoration is still on-going and the owner has carried out extensive research to ensure the cars components and details are as original as possible. The car was displayed in part-completed form at the MMOC National Rally in 2008. Since 2010 the car has been back on the road and attends many local and national rallies and events.

1950 Morris Minor Series MM 2 Door Saloon. GBL 705.
Berkshire
Originally purchased by the present owner as his first car in 1961, it was retained for six years for both everyday use and touring holidays. During this time it travelled throughout England, Scotland and Wales and in 1965 it journeyed through France, Switzerland and Germany. In 1967 the car was sold-on to another family member but was returned to the present owner in 1976.
Much work has since been carried out to ensure safety and longevity but still retaining originality as far as possible. In 2008 a new engine was fitted incorporating an Alta OHV Conversion to the regular side valve engine of the Series 'MM' cars. Current use is restricted to MMOC and similar events during the year.

1952 Morris Minor Series MM Tourer. UYF 247.
Oxfordshire
The owner of this car worked at the Cowley plant for 35 years and purchased it for £50 in 1976 from Greenwoods scrap yard in Garsington, about three miles from where it was made. It had a side valve engine but no front wheels and wasn't in great condition. All the mechanical parts were repaired or replaced and refitted. In December 1976 the car passed its M.O.T.
The car was made to R H D Export specifications and delivered to Nuffield Exports, for an unknown destination. It was first registered in London in January 1958 after being imported from Cyprus. The car has been kept to the original specifications for a car exported to a hot country, with oil bath cleaner and no heater. It has a clear Delco distributor cap. Flashing indicators and a larger rear window have been added to make it safer to drive in modern day traffic.

1953 Morris Minor Series MM Convertible. PHY 28.
Oxfordshire
Built and dispatched to Bristol Motor Co. Ltd in January 1953 and registered on January 19th just a few days later.
After purchasing the car from a friend in February 1995, the current owner soon realised that the underside was like a patchwork quilt and unsafe. In 1997 a bottom up restoration began and the floor panels, sills, rear spring hangers and front wings were replaced. After that required a full rebuild of the brakes and suspension and finally a repaint. The car was ready just in time to attend the Golden Jubilee Rally at Blenheim Palace in 1998.
The car has enjoyed three trips to Bandon, County Cork, Ireland which included taking part in the Gordon Bennett Rally and has participated in the MOT to Loire Valley in France, five MOT-UK rallies and numerous National and other UK rallies.

Oxfordshire
Originally a black Morris Minor 1000 Saloon, this car was converted and sprayed Old English White by its previous owner more than 20 years ago.
Since acquiring the car, the current owners use it daily, covering an average of 6,000 miles per year and it is out in all weathers. In 2012, the engine was replaced with a 1098cc unit and slightly larger front brakes were fitted. The car also now has front and rear seatbelts and the brake master cylinder and petrol pump have been replaced.
In the future it will get a respray and a new red hood.

1964 Morris Minor 1000 Traveller. 379 NOA.
Oxfordshire
379 NOA was an offer too good to refuse. It is a 1964 Traveller in very good condition, currently on its third owner – the second only had it a few months. The current owner has fitted an electronic ignition (near essential) and a reversing light (luxury). The plan is to add a water temperature gauge, a high level brake light (to avoid anybody hitting the back end) and a power point (to run a satnav), but otherwise it is intended to keep it as near original as possible –taking special care of the woodwork.

'ADY' is an everyday car which the owner bought in 2010. Since then it has featured in the filming of 'Endeavour' in Oxford, was part of the 100 years of motoring in Oxford celebrations in 2013 and was in the centre display of the 60 years of the Morris Minor Traveller event at Gaydon in 2013.
The car runs beautifully and has just had all of the wood replaced by 'Woodies' who specialise in timber frames for Morris Minor Travellers.
'ADY' enjoys taking part in the various events to which the Oxon & Berks branch are invited and organise ourselves.

The owner acquired this Trafalgar Blue Morris Minor from Cowley works through his brother who was an employee there. He still has the original logbook dated 3rd July 1967. At that time, it was very much a working car; doing 30 miles round trip to work every day and taking it on holidays to Yorkshire and Wales.
The odometer has been twice round, first in April 1977 and again on 26th June 1988. On 14th August 2011 it reached quarter of a million miles at the Cowley Classic Car Show.
In 1984 Richard Plant carried out major bodywork repairs and replaced the clutch but the engine is original, with the head coming off twice for decokes.

I bought our Traveller as a birthday present for my wife from Charles Ware in 2003. we were both driving Morris Minors when we first met in 1978, she a Minor saloon always with an RSPCA rescue Alsatian sitting on the rear seat, and myself a gaudy yellow ex-post office van. At the time of purchase KRD 524F underwent some restoration work including structural welding parts of the underside, new timber frame, some refurbishment of internal linings and seats.
During the time of our ownership of KRD 524F we have driven around France several times and a return trip to Slovenia without incident. She has had a new head fitted with unleaded conversion, disk brakes with servo assistance, alternator and electric fan, the latter to assist in climbing the Alps in a hot summer.

The car also starred as the chauffeur for the 'queen' in celebration of the Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee day in June 2012.

1952 Morris Minor Series MM 2 Door Saloon. KOU 147.
Berkshire
Initially sold in 1952 through W. W. Webers, the Morris Agents in Basingstoke, the current owner bought the car in 1978 for £200. The first modification carried out on the car was to replace the 5 gallon petrol tank with a 6.5 gallon tank for an extended range. The car enjoyed going to its first rallies in 1980, a local steam fair at Littlewick Green near Maidenhead and the MMOC National Rally in Donnington. The car attended the first two MOTs to Fontainebleau and Oudkarspel and they continue to enjoy taking part in the National MOT-UK events. Family holidays were undertaken in the Morris which required fitting a tow bar for towing a camping trailer. Various modifications have been made to the car to allow it to cope with modern driving conditions, while retaining the character of the car.

1955 Morris Minor Series II 2 Door Saloon. OOT 885.
Oxfordshire
This Morris Minor had just one previous owner until 2011. Up until that point it had 50,000 miles on the clock and was garaged in a barn from 1980 to 2011. The rubber was perished but other than that, the car was in good condition. Remarkably, the 60 year old chassis has no welding or plating - possibly a result of having it sprayed with duck oil every winter.
The suspension rubbers, fan belt, engine and gearbox mountings, the master cylinder and all brake pipes and many of the wheel cylinders have now been replaced. This is a 1955 split-screen Morris Minor saloon with an 803cc engine and is standard in all respects. Known in the family as 'Doris the Morris', the odometer in May 2013 reads 53,000 miles.

Manufactured in March 1959 as a left-hand drive, 2-door saloon and exported to the USA the following day. The first owner is unknown, but it was bought, on 15 June 1961, by Carol Barringer in Gainesville, Florida for $600.00. When she upgraded (?) to a more modern car she passed it on to her father for his daily commute to work. There are two service records for 1988. The present owner bought it from the Barringers in 1996 for $350. The odometer read 37,328, but had not been working for many years because the nylon drive in the gearbox had worn out. After a complete strip, down the only rust - other than surface rust - was where some crash damage had been repaired very badly - and the bottom of the boot lid. All the usual area of rust on most UK models of the same age were sound and rust free. The battery area, however, was real mess. Otherwise the car was just tatty! All four wings had dents, the front seats had sagged (broken webbing) and the carpets had holes. With replacements and 'upgrades' both from US and UK suppliers, the car returned to England, as a tourer, with our household 'stuff' in 2004. Two years later the car was right-hand drive and registered, MOT'd and insured in the UK. Not knowing the mileage but with a reconditioned 1096 engine and matching gearbox and a different speedometer, DVLA agreed that it could start again from zero - so long as any future buyer was told 'up front'. Now with still fewer than 3000 miles registered, it has been 'up' the Prescott Speed Hill Climb about a dozen times as well as attending MMOC annual rallies and other classic car activities. Since 2006, only one other pearl grey car has been seen - at Cornbury in 2013.

Discovered unused and under tarpaulin in a neighbour's garage, 'Betty' is a restoration project acquired by its current owner in October 2012. The car was found complete and fairly sound after some three years of being laid up. Following advice from a mechanic friend and discussions with our Branch members an action plan is now in place for getting it up and running again. Hopefully 'Betty' will be able to join us again in 2014.

This car has been in the same family since it was new in 1964. Acquired in 1974 from a Great Great Aunt it was used for weekly shopping trips to Totnes along the narrow Devon lanes.
The original 1098cc engine still runs smoothly. The boot lid, wing and some of the doors have been resprayed despite the Rose Taupe paint of today being difficult to match with the original paintwork.
The car has participated in the MOT rallies to France in 1998, 2003, 2005 and 2007 and enjoys going on the annual MOT-UK events.
The odometer reads a genuine 57,000 miles.

After viewing this car in 2007 at the Charles Ware's Morris Minor Centre the current owners fell in love with it. To get the car up to a standard for modern driving, the original engine was replaced with a vintage 1275cc Ital engine with an alternator instead of the dynamo and also Halogen headlights and disc brakes were fitted. Extensive bodywork was carried out, finishing with a repaint in Trafalgar Blue and the seats and carpets were restored. In 2010 the owners were reunited with the car and it is now a much loved member of the family and enjoys tootling around country lanes and in the area where the car was made.

Owned by just two people to date, the current owner has covered more than 70,000 miles in the car since it was purchased in 1982.
The car has since been rebuilt twice. The first time involved fitting new sills, new cross member repair sections and uprated brakes, plus a unique set of wheels which the owner designed.
With the second rebuild, the car was the project car for 'Street Machine', a magazine for classic and modified cars. For this the car had a re-spray in Jaguar Dark Blue, a new engine, suspension, interior and lots of period-style modifications such as a louvered bonnet, red wheels and Moon hubcaps. The car featured four times in the magazine.
Further plans are to fit an Aussie sun visor which was acquired during a trip to Australia and hopefully a red interior.

Further plans are to fit an Aussie sun visor which was acquired during a trip to Australia and hopefully a red interior.

Bought in 2000 for the owner's daughter, this car has been gradually up-rated using, as far as possible, parts which would have been available in the 1960s to 1970s. It now has a 1275cc MG Midget engine and an LCB exhaust system. Also, a Midget gearbox which, externally is identical to the 1098cc Minor box but has the addition of an automatic reversing light switch and higher ratio internal gears, a 3.9 diff completed the transmission. The standard front brakes have been swapped with a set of Wolseley 1500 9inch front brakes and the original light blue upholstery has been swapped with a darker set in better condition. The front seats have also been exchanged for a pair that have probably come from a Maestro - non-period but much more comfortable! The driver's glove box has also been replaced with an instrument panel. Restoration continues.

Originally owned by a Cowley factory employee, the car then went to owners in Witney and Reading before being purchased in October 2017 by the current owner living in Abingdon. By a strange coincidence the car was off the road for periods of time with each of the former owners, helping to explain that in early 2018 the genuine recorded mileage is just 39000 from new. In recent years replacement front wings and a ‘refreshing’ respray have helped to maintain a very good overall condition. The car is believed to be essentially original and has no mechanical alterations. Currently kept carefully garaged but in very regular use the aim is to retain both condition and originality.
Whilst in his first job the present owner had a similar car in the same colour, Trafalgar Blue, though it was earlier and less good condition. Many years ago – isn’t nostalgia wonderful.

'Misty', as she is affectionately known, was the current owners' first car at the age of sixteen. A small amount of work to get her roadworthy was carried out before being used as a daily drive.
An accident in late January 2012 prompted a full and comprehensive rebuild, and she returned to the road in time for the National Rally 2012.
