Cowley Classic Car Show Sunday 14th August 2016 |
|
Several members of our branch attended this annual event. Some joined the convoy from the Cowley Works and others made their own way to the showground at Marsden. This event has a great variety of cars not necessarily assembled at Cowley as well as other attractions and is a most enjoyable day out.
Pete 's New Zealand Morris Minor. Tony and Ann "most glamorous picnic award"
Harwell Feast May 2016
The weather was overcast, but was fine and dry for the day’s event. The Parade starts at the North end of the village with the vehicles parking up in the Croft. It enables the occupants of the cars to have a chat and see the first glimpse of the floats. The parade started promptly at 11.00am making its way along the High Street to the recreation ground. Large crowds gather in the High to watch and cheer the procession as it went by. Heading the processing and setting the pace was a little and large traction engines followed by the Abbey Brass Band. The May Queen rode in an open top Rolls Royce and must have thought she was the Queen herself. Next came the floats decorated by the various village groups. One of the floats carried the Bragg Tree Buskers and they where in full swing given the parade quite a carnival atmosphere. Then came all the cars of various makes and years including Frank, Graham and Stuart in Richard’s car. Also in the parade was Des Fox in his MGB. The Vikings followed at the rear who invaded the village over the weekend. Once in the recreation field, the cars were parked along the side of the embankment with Stuart, Frank and Graham together but Tony was further down the field since he parked before the parade started. There were fine ranges of vehicles on display as shown on a couple of photos. In the feast competition results, Frank came second in the veteran cars class; congratulations Frank. Weather wise, it was rather dull day but a very good attendance made it a bright one for the feast organizers laying on many attractions for people to enjoy. VETERAN CARS

Drive it Day to Basildon Park 24th April 2016
The British weather smiled upon us as we assembled outside the Cowley Works, BMW T building at 10am. Tea and Coffee were available, the Museum and toilets were open and a growing throng of enthusiasts admired a variety of classic metal. Other groups were using this convenient and welcoming venue as a starting point for their own day trips so there was plenty to see and enjoy.Seven Minors made the trip to Basildon Park (NT) along a well chosen route that made the most of the countryside, the views and the quiet roads through Garsington, Stadhampton, RAF Benson, Crowmarsh Gifford, Cholsey, Moulsford, and Streatley. On arrival we were directed by National Trust staff to park in front of the main house to the obvious delight of the visitors on the day. It was a shame that due to the NT full charging policy one member decided not to progress further than the lower car park. As we were an obvious 'visitor attraction' a suitable reduction would have been appreciated. So six Minors ranging from a 1948 MM to a 1970 1000 lined up proudly and lunch was taken. Afterwards there was the opportunity to chat to the many admiring visitors and stroll around the gardens and grounds. Members left in their own time to wend their ways home.My route was back through Streatley and then along the lovely Downs road to Rowstock and back into Abingdon. Many thanks to the organisers on the day for a delightful first club outing for a new member.
Brooklands. 6th March 2016
On 6th March 2016 four club members took their three minors that included two lowlights to Brooklands in Surrey. The event was held for Morris and Austin owners and had a very good turn out from all eras. Other attractions at the event include an excellent bus museum - aircraft from yesteryear - and time trail hill climbing for those cars wishing to take their owners for a spin.
