Oxon & Berks MMOC Branch Events 2014 Reports
Oxon & Berks Branch AGM. 1st October 2014
We enjoyed a very informative and efficient AGM at our meeting place of the Britannia Inn in Headington. Our Chairman Paul Hurd was unable to be present at the meeting due to other commitments but our Branch Secretary Matt Tomkins stepped up to the job of conducting the meeting. Various points were made about future events in 2015, our meeting place, website and social media activities. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the meeting and for all of your interesting and useful comments.
MOT UK to Devon. July 2014
Abingdon Air and Country Show. May 2014.

An excellent day at the Abingdon Air-show again.
The Oxon & Berks Branch of the Morris Minor Owners Club, along with over 10,000 people enjoyed the May sunshine at the 15th annual Abingdon Air & Country Show on Sunday the 4th May.
We all watched flying displays by 80 vintage and modern aircraft including Spitfires, an RAF Tucano training plane, a jet Provost, a Storch, aerobatic biplanes, Breitling Wingwalkers, and a 1950s Canberra bomber.
There was also a large display of ‘interesting’ vehicles in a designated car-park including Morris Minors, several MG’s and other makes, and many military vehicles to interest the crowds at Abingdon Airfield. The OB&B branch fielded 8 vehicles originating from 1948 to 1966.
Details of cars and owners are listed below:
Frank McDonagh. 1948 Morris Minor Series MM 2 Door Saloon. Reg: MPJ 584
Paul Hurd. 1953 Morris Minor Series MM Convertible. Reg: PHY 28.
Robin Stafford Allen. 1955 Morris Minor Series II 2 Door Saloon Reg: OOT 885.
Matt Tomkins. 1960 Morris Minor 1000 Convertible. Reg: BYC 46B
Derrick Baker. 1964 Morris Minor 1000 4 Door Saloon. Reg: 283 STA.
Louisa Westbury. 1966 Morris Minor 1000 Traveller. Reg: ADY 46D.
Tony Miller. 1966 Morris Minor 1000 4 Door Saloon. Reg: EJO 98D.
We had all gathered in the car-park of a local pub shepherded by Louisa Westbury into the correct order for the drive in convoy to the show-ground at Abingdon Airfield only a mile away. This precaution meant we could keep the club cars as a group in the car park as the vehicles were parked in a first-come-first-served basis rather than having organised locations. The Club Gazebo was pressed into service and put up in case of inclement weather, but sun-burn was the main issue of the day as the cloudy cool morning wore off into a glorious sunny and almost clear skied afternoon. This produced ideal conditions to watch the flying display and chat to the interested members of the public who sauntered around the car park, most of them reminiscing about how they used-to-own/learnt-to-drive/were-taken-to-school/grandmother-had-one-of-these/Nurse-Gladys which all added to the enjoyment of the day.

'Wheels of Speed' at Stonesfield Primary School. 2nd April 2014

The Branch received a beautifully written letter from a year five pupil, asking whether we might be able to provide a Minor to provide part of the finale to their topic on car development through the years. An overwhelming response by our members saw five cars attend, much to the delight of the children.
Perhaps this will have inspired an interest in classic cars which may present itself as a future for our hobby.
